MUVINDU BINOY
Born in 1989 in the vibrant cultural milieu of Sri Lanka, Muvindu Binoy emerged as one of the most influential artists of the digital age. He explores the fissures of social fabric, exposing the interplay between fate, online realities, and societal norms with a unique blend of absurdist humour and uncanny truths. Utilising the internet as his archive, he meticulously crafts digital collages that mirror the contradictions of modern living. These creations serve as profound explorations of gender, agency, tradition, and societal expectations amid ever-evolving digital landscapes.
Binoy's art resonates with a delicate balance of satire and insight. Through digital image manipulation, his work challenges societal norms and established structures. His art blurs the lines between reality and the digital realm, inviting contemplation on the complexities of contemporary existence. In 2019, Binoy became the Ya Connect Artist-in-Residence in Sri Lanka, immersing himself in his homeland's cultural tapestry. In 2021, he expanded his horizons as a Cité Internationales des Arts resident in France, deepening his artistic explorations. He participated in Pop South Asia: Artistic Explorations in the Popular exhibition at Sharjah Art Foundation (2022), Jawahar Kala Kendra in India (2019), and the Colombo Art Biennale (2016).
